A small prickly shrub with fragrant blossoms, Rose can be made into an absolute and an essential oil, depending on how it is extracted. Native to Western Asia and Europe, Bulgarian Rose began to be cultivated in Bulgaria in the 1600's. It is currently produced in a variety of countries including Bulgaria, France, Italy, and China.

The history of Rose goes back centuries, and the name comes from a Greek word meaning “red.” Chinese, Romans, Assyrians, and Babylonians prized the Rose for its healing properties. The Romans in particular liked to add rose petals to their bathwater.

To retain as much oil as possible, blossoms are harvested in the early morning when oil content is at its highest. These blossoms are transported to the distillery promptly, where it is distilled in a two-stage process to extract as much of the oil as possible. It is said to take as much as two tons of rose petals to produce a pound of Rose essential oil.

A more affordable version of the essential oil is an absolute which is what Victoria Kay Designs sells. Absolutes are created by immersing blossoms into a solvent, a way to “dry clean” the plant. This produces a more complete plant extract. Some traces of solvent may remain in the final product, and must be properly diluted before use. It takes 12,000 petals to produce one single 5 ml bottle of rose oil...  Its true aroma is rich, floral, sensual, and oooooh so heavenly.

Rose is most commonly used for emotional balance and skin health, however throughout history rose oil uses have ranged from digestive to hormonal and almost anything in between, including immune, heart health, and more.

The rose is still considered a profound symbol of love and beauty. Our Rose absolute is simply exquisite and affords endless glorious uses and benefits. It imparts harmony and peace upon the human spirit, thereby calming and gently inspiring positive emotions.

Use this essential oil sparingly; one drop goes a long way because its oh so VERY potent, concentrated and odiferous!

Diffusion: Use one to four drops in the diffuser of your choice (this oil is VERY strong/potent, but you decide how strong you want the scent to be). Ideally, diffuse essential oils for 30-60 minutes on, then 30-60 minutes off. This is not only safer, but it’s also more effective as both our bodies and our nervous system habituate to essential oils after this period of time. Whenever you are using or diffusing essential oils, some air exchange (fresh air) is advisable. Do not diffuse around cats.

Topical use: Apply one to two drops to desired area. Dilute with a carrier oil (Jojoba, Sunflower, Olive, Coconut, Almond, etc.) to minimize any skin sensitivity. Proper dilution ratio and a link for you to learn how to properly dilute is below.

CAUTION: It is important to note that all absolutes are extremely concentrated by nature. They should not be evaluated in this state unless you are accustomed to the undiluted fragrance. For those trying Absolutes for the first time, we strongly recommend they be evaluated in dilution. Otherwise, the complexity of the fragrance - particularly the rare and exotic notes - becomes lost.

Please keep out of the heat, the sun and the light. It is best to store essential oils in a cool, dark place or room. Do not leave in your vehicle in warm (75+ degrees) or very cold temperatures. Heat especially destroys the medicinal/therapeutic properties of essential oils. Make sure to keep cap tightly closed. It is best to use your essential oils within one year, although they will last much longer than that if taken care of properly (above). If not taken care of properly, essential oils can degrade and/or go rancid, and will no longer be medicinal/therapeutic for you.
