Victoria's Story

Hello! My name is Victoria, and I’m the owner, artist and designer behind Victoria Kay Designs. I’m a born and raised Michigander from Lowell, Michigan with a passion for helping others through the plants that God put on this earth for us to use. To my delight, my Lithuanian grandmother lived next door and during my childhood I happily learned many wonderful skills from her. When I was a small child she would take me along on her “Trrromping” adventures in the woods. Some of what grandma learned came from the American Indians in the area and then she also imparted much wisdom to me from what she had learned in the old country. On our adventures we would gather many different plants, herbs and mushrooms and she would explain to me what they were used for. This early knowledge gave me a fantastic glimpse into a future interest for working with herbs as an adult.

In addition to my grandmother, my father had many other Lithuanian relatives living in the Grand Rapids area. His five sisters were extremely talented and I was blessed to have been taught the arts of floral arranging, painting, drawing, pottery, terrariums, sewing, cooking, baking, etc. from them. They were very talented individuals to say the least, and I for one feel privileged that they were happy to share their gifts in the arts with me. I soaked up every bit of knowledge I could and I have tried to continue sharing these skills with others. In addition, I have had the pleasure of being involved in the art and craft show circuit for much of my life - creating many different types of art due mainly to the influence of my aunts. I have to say that I definitely wouldn’t be the person I am today without the early influence of these strong, amazing and talented women.

How Victoria Kay Designs Began

In 2010 my son was in the Army and severely injured his knee while doing night maneuvers. Doctors told him he’d need surgery to repair his knee. He asked me if I could send him something to help him. At first I looked into purchasing a product, but couldn’t find anything that would help with the pain, attempt to repair the knee and was completely natural. Since I couldn’t find anything to my liking, I started doing research and found what Alexander the Great used to help keep his troops moving 40 and 50 miles a day – ingredients like Olive Oil, Myrrh, Lavender, Ginger and Tumeric. Further research revealed many different foods, herbs, oils and butters (that I already had in my house, out in my garden and the field) that resulted in the first version of our Get Up & Go! Salve product to help with the nerves, muscles and joints and the pain that went along with it. This led me to think that I could make a cream for my son based on what I had found - so I did! Within minutes, the pain he had each day was gone and a couple months later a doctor’s visit revealed that he no longer needed surgery! A few months later he was in Afghanistan with the Army and had a severe skin/heat rash all over his body (he is very fair-skinned). Again, my research into Alexander the Great said that Sunflower Oil, Calendula, Aloe Vera and Lavender were what he used for himself and his troops if they were affected by the sun and heat. My son’s condition was instantly relieved and his skin healed quite quickly! The products I formulated worked so well for my son that I thought it would be fun to conduct research into other historical figures and figure out what they used for various conditions to help themselves and those close to them. We know that since medicines derived from plants played a pivotal role in the health care of many cultures in the past, I asked myself – “Why not use this knowledge and the plants God has placed on this earth to help ourselves naturally right now?” Other family members and various friends heard about my success and asked me to create all-natural herbal products to help their external issues and conditions.

As a result, in 2011 my truly unique, all-natural, herbal, absolutely handmade from scratch (no “base/bucket/melt & pour" used, hours & hours of research to create each recipe are conducted, no preservatives/parabens, no artificial ingredients, chemicals, etc.) with the highest quality - preferably organic, with many herbs from my garden and high-end ingredients from all over the world -  became Victoria Kay Designs. What also makes my process unique is that I work very hard to infuse the fresh herbs into organic oils. The infusion process is not something that many people do or know how to do because it is one of the "old" methods of making herbal products.

The business has grown by leaps and bounds since 2011, focusing on various products for issues and conditions as well as regular soaps, lotions, lip balm and lip rouge that are actually all-natural, healthy and nourishing for the whole family! I am so pleased to be helping people by offering my products at many venues all over the state of Michigan and via our website. My hope and passion is to not only help people deal with conditions that they are experiencing, but to also bring comfort to their soul. Overall, my goals are to help inspire and educate everyone to have a happier and healthier life.

About Me

For the past many decades I have been active in organic gardening, herbs, herb clubs, organic foods, and keeping myself and my family as healthy as possible. In the past ten years I have been experimenting with Permaculture techniques in my herb, vegetable, fruit and mushroom garden by improving the soil, working with microbes and fungi, etc. – naturally making the plants very strong and resistant to pests. So far I am very pleased with how Permaculture has worked in my garden and plan to further my education in it and make my garden even better! In addition, I have been working on having the healthiest, happiest and most natural bee hive around!

Present Day

I am married with two wonderful grown children, living on a small piece of heaven with a ½ acre Permaculture garden just north of Lowell, Michigan. When not working in the garden, creating products and selling at Art & Craft shows, my husband and I love to take grand adventures visiting our beautiful Michigan on my husband’s motorcycle, delighting in all that our great state has to offer.

Many Blessings and To Your Best Health Always,

Victoria
